Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman was born May 25, 1994. She is a retired American artistic gymnast. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. She was awarded a gold team medal during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans to have two consecutive gold medals at this event. Raisman was also awarded silver medals in the individual all-around and floor exercises. Raisman also won silver medals in the individual all-around and for floor exercise. She is also a two time national champion in floor exercises (2012 and 2015) and the 2012 national champion in balance beam. She's also the reigning national champion for five consecutive years in all-around at national championships (silver bronze, silver 2011, 2012 and the year 2015). In 2013 she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on the 25th of May, 1994, in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), an ex-high school gymnast as well as Rick Raisman. She has three younger sisters: Madison, Chloe, and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and states that "I really enjoy being able to not just be a representative of the U.S.A but also the Jewish Community all over the world." "Raisman started gymnastics when she was eighteen months old. She attributes her love of gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's team which won the gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. She was trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8, and then moved to Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club, where she was trained by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman has graduated from Needham High School in 2012. She finished her senior year on the internet while practicing for the Olympics.
