ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born on July 2nd, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. They raised her along with her two sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan was multisport throughout her childhood, but she only discovered soccer at the age of 14. She became a member of the Cypress Elite club team, winning the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and finishing in third place in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to develop her skills in soccer at Diamond Bar High School. National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has selected Morgan as an All-American Athlete. She also played for regional and state divisions of the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Morgan furthered her soccer career at UC Berkeley, where she played a key role in leading the California Golden Bears team in scoring from her very first season. She led the team to the NCAA Tournament in four years and to two times to the second round. Morgan was one of the four finalists for Honda Sports Award. She also became the first Hermann Trophy finalist from her school. After graduating earlier in the year, Morgan was ranked third in all-time points and goals for Berkeley. Morgan juggled soccer careers at the collegiate and national levels throughout her studies. Morgan was injured to her ACL in her first year as a Berkeley player. She was not able to play with the U.S. Under-20 Women's Soccer team until April 2008. She scored her debut international goal in Mexico during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a part of the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup with four goals, getting her team an Olympic gold medal, along with other accolades.Morgan was later absorbed into the senior national team for which she substituted and scored several crucial goals. One of these was winning goals against Italy that brought the U.S. a place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player of the team and he led the U.S. team to victory against France. Though the U.S. ultimately lost to Japan, Morgan became the first player to record both a goal and an assist during a final World Cup game.
